Exposure exercises are rarely fun; however they can be the crucial part of a person’s recovery because it allows you to apply the strategies you’re learning to the things that you want to be doing but have been having trouble with. Research shows that the more frequently you do the exposures, the more quickly you won’t need to be doing them anymore. While the 3 to 5 exercises a week might be hard to manage, keep your eye on the prize: A lifetime of living freely without having anxiety or depression dictating where and when you can do things.
If you find that you’re not doing the exposures to avoid a particular step on your hierarchy, take a closer look at it -- it might be too much of stretch at this point. Consider breaking it down more or moving it higher up on the hierarchy.
