Sadness is a feeling that propels us to seek out comfort and support from others. Again, it can be a useful emotion in that it allows us time to regroup after a loss and signals to others to give us support. Problems arise if the source of sadness is the result of negative thoughts we have about ourselves that might not be a true reflection of the information we have available, like thinking we’re a failure because we didn’t get a particular job because it went to someone who had more experience.
