Module 1 - Motivation Enhancement

Sticking with the Program

As we mentioned, change is hard and it takes time and effort to get to know your problems and do something differently. Chances are your problems didn’t suddenly develop overnight and so it’s unlikely they’ll go just as quickly. While knowledge and information is helpful, reading about how to do something is very different from actually doing something different. For example, you may have read all the books on how to make a perfect tennis serve, but it’s an entirely different matter when you have a racket and ball in your hand. That’s why it will be super important for you to not only read the material, but to also complete the exercises on a daily basis.

Your ability to judge the usefulness of the program will depend on your participation in it. For example, it would be unfair to conclude the medication you were taking to treat your strep throat was ineffective if you were only taking it whenever you felt like it or thought about it. This program works in the same way; the more you stick to it, the more likely you’ll be to benefit from it.
