Module 1 - Motivation Enhancement

Depression

Depression is more than just feeling sad occasionally. In addition to feeling down or depressed almost all day, every day, or losing interest and pleasure in things that you normally enjoy doing, people with depression can experience many other symptoms. Some of these include:

  • Changes in appetite – either eating more or less than usual
  • Weight changes – either increases or decreases
  • Changes in sleep – sleeping more or less than usual, perhaps having difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Feeling more fidgety or restless such that others may have noticed and commented
  • Feeling more slowed down
  • Fatigued
  • Difficulty thinking or concentrating or making everyday decisions
  • Pervasive feelings that you’re not good enough or worthlessness
  • Feeling guilty for things you have or haven’t done
  • Regularly thinking that you might be better off dead, making plans to kill yourself, actually attempting to kill yourself
